What's in Store

If approved, the development will create around 220 new full and part-time jobs for the local community and would include:

  • A foodstore with a 30,000sq ft (2,787sq m) sales area
  • A petrol station and kiosk
  • A customer restaurant
  • Food counters
  • Customer toilets with disabled and parent & child facilities
  • Cash machines
  • Over 270 car parking spaces
  • A pick-up and drop-off point
  • Improved landscaping

It is intended that no more than 25% would be non-food products and typically they would be divided across the following product categories:

  • Audio Visual, e.g. phones, DVD’s and Computer Games (Under 3% of the total floor area)
  • Books, Stationary and Games (Under 6% of the total floor area)
  • Consumer electrics, e.g. electrical appliances (Under 3% of the total floor area)
  • Household goods (Under 5% of the total floor area)
  • Clothing, including children’s clothing (Under 6 % of the total floor area)
  • Car and DIY (Under 0.5 % of the total floor area)
  • Seasonal such as Christmas, Easter, and summer ranges etc. (4% of the total floor area)

The percentage of floor space taken is relatively low when split across the various categories. Where possible we have reacted to the needs and desires of the public expressed during consultation. For example, many stated a need for reasonably priced children’s clothing, which we have included in the above.

The store will provide a limited product range compared to that available in town centre shops and won’t offer the level of customer service you would expect from specialist shops.

Our proposal is first and foremost a foodstore. Food will remain a priority, whilst the non-food offer will be secondary.
