Sainsbury's Commitment
Design and sustainability
Respect for the environment is one of Sainsbury’s core values. To put this into practice, the proposed Ledbury store could feature rainwater harvesting, motion sensor lighting and sun tubes. It would also have a biomass boiler, which burns wood pellets to generate heat and power, providing a renewable source of energy. The clean emissions would be dispersed via a flue opening around half a metre above the highest point on the roof.
Access
To provide safe and easy access to the store, Sainsbury’s would provide a foot and cycle path to link New Mills Way to the Herefordshire Trail, together with a new and improved bridge across Orchard Lane for cyclists and pedestrians allowing better connection to the Ledbury Town Trail. The bus stops adjacent to the pedestrian access to the site on New Mills Way would also see new bus shelters installed.
Landscaping
The existing landscaping around the site is a key part of the development, and will be kept wherever possible, while the overall setting of the store will also be improved with significant landscape improvements. Additional natural screening from residential properties will be provided.
